Whispered interpreting (often called chuchotage) is almost identical to simultaneous interpreting. The difference is that microphones and booths are not used in whispered interpretation. The interpreter sits or stands next to the (small) intended audience and interprets simultaneously in a whisper. Whispered interpretation is often used in situations when the majority of a group speaks one language, and a limited number of people do not speak that language, for example: for foreign guests on a TV talk-show.
For certain, whispered interpreting is a difficult method of interpreting. The interpreter must control the sound of his/her voice, neighboring sounds are disturbing.. which tests the interpreters concentration efforts under great pressure. For this reason, BlueGlobe International takes great care in the selection process of an interpreter for a whispered interpreting project.
